ASCAT 2023
The 18th Annual ASCAT (Academy for Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia), Conference, with EHA and BSH, is set for 25th - 28th October 2023 with the theme: Therapeutic Strategies for Sickle Cell Disease & Thalassaemia: Time To Consider A Multi-Modal & Personalised Approach.

TCD in Sickle Cell Disorder
The NHP TCD QA Working Group, Chaired by Professor Baba Inusa and Dr Soundrie Padayachee, invite you to a free webinar on 14th June 2023, 0900 - 1100hrs.
The event will be addressing a range of issues around TCD screening, including low velocities, asymmetry, TCD modality to clinical outcome correlation.
This meeting will be beneficial for practitioners across the haemoglobinopathies scope of practice.

This is the first event in our HCC National Teaching series, and will be presented by Dr Sanne Lugthart (University Hospitals, Bristol - South West HCC).

EHA-SWG Scientific Meeting on Acquired Aplastic Anemia - hosted by European Haematology Association
EHA & the EHA Scientific Working Group on Granulocyte and Constitutional Marrow Failure Syndromes are happy to announce their recent collaboration in organizing a virtual meeting program on Acquired Aplastic Anemia. This scientific meeting presents a worldwide approach to the topic and offers an excellent opportunity for participants to learn about each aspect of the disease in one go.

North West England Sickle Cell and North of England Thalassaemia/Rare Inherited Anaemias HCC Education Event
This event will be open to professionals in the North of England and will be for the benefit not only of haematology trainees but also specialist nurses, laboratory scientists, and others with a special interest in haemoglobinopathy investigation or management.
There will be a number of education sessions running throughout the afternoon on topics including:
Laboratory diagnosis of haemoglobinopathies
Antenatal and neonatal screening
Transfusion including SHOT data
Management of pregnant patients with haemoglobinopathies
Novel therapies including lentiviral gene therapies and CRIPSR/Cas9 genome editing

South Thames Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia Network - Red Cell for Haematology SPR Trainees
For Specialist Registrars training for Part 1 and Part 2 of FRCPath exam, this is a haematology revision course with a specific emphasis on red cell disorders.
We look at recent exam papers and ensure we include the most likely topics that will be included in your exam. This is a very interactive course that includes case studies, past exam questions and a very encouraging atmosphere for you to ask questions to our expert speakers.

EHA EBMT 3rd European CAR T-Cell Meeting - hosted by European Haematology Association

London and South East Thalassaemia Learning Session - 'Introduction to Thalassaemia'
This session is hosted by the London and South East Thalassaemia HCC and will be led by Dr. Paul Telfer (Clinical Lead for Haemoglobinopathy services, Barts Health NHS Trust). It is primarily intended for nursing staff caring for thalassaemia patients at all centres in the network, but open to anyone in the network who would like to attend. This is an online event for consultants, clinical academics, nurses, medical trainees and other medical professionals from centres in South London and the wider South East area involved in the care of adults and children with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia. ANNUAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE ON SICKLE CELL AND THALASSAEMIA 2020
We are looking forward to The Annual Scientific Conference on Sickle Cell and Thalassaemia, 2020, an unprecedented year in a number of ways; firstly by working in collaboration with the European Hematology Association (EHA) and the British Society of Haematology (BSH) to host this year's conference; and also as a result of Covid -19 we are embarking on an online virtual programme of events from 26th to 31st October with a face to face element in the final days, which due to the unpredictable nature of this pandemic means that we will need to review these plans regularly.
‘Haemoglobinopathies: Emerging Challenges and Future Therapies' This theme reflects the rapid progress in research for new drug therapies and curative therapies; a number of FDA approvals and other national approval process are at different stages. The fact that the majority of patients with Sickle Cell Disease and Thalassemia live in low resource settings these new therapies may not be readily accessible or affordable, means that we must therefore refocus our attention to improve newborn screening and comprehensive care, hydroxyurea therapy, blood transfusion and effective iron chelation.
